5.    Edifying Anchor Chart

I love how they've used advertisements, commercials, and book covers to teach author's purpose. They can see how this relates to the real world.

I found it here, but couldn't track down the original source.

6.  This sound so yummy.

The Reason

In spite of the busy-ness of today, I hope you took time to reflect on the real reason and importance of today.

6 for a Slippery Saturday

We're been besieged here in Oklahoma with rain-turned-ice.  Fortunately, in my immediate area, the soil temperature is warm enough that streets haven't glazed over.  Everything above the ground is coated with ice.  Thankful our power hasn't gone out, though, many other parts of Oklahoma have an ice-induced blackout.

I'm playing a hand chime solo at church in the morning.  It's "Oh Come, O Come, Emmanuel."  If we have to cancel church because of bad roads and reschedule it for next Sunday, I guess we'll call it "He Came, He Came, Emmanuel!"

Now for 6 of the nuggets I mined from Pinterest this week.

 1. Here's a good source of information.

2. Have fun coloring these Peter Rabbit pages.  I love Beatrix Potter's illustrations.

LOVE this idea of duck tape on the floor as train tracks for Polar Express!!!

VI for Saturday

Keep brown sugar soft by storing with a couple of marshmallows

Follow the links on each of these pins to find their origins.

Had never heard of  this simple way to keep brown sugar from hardening---a marshmallow!

Paper Vernissage: The Christmas Elf Strikes Again ... diy snowmen (paper) with LED tea light noses

I stole this idea to make to top my grandson's birthday present.    Notice the head is a battery-operated votive.  I put velcro on the back so the light could be lifted up to turn the votive on or off.

Fun with magnets: place paperclips into a vase of water, then use a magnet to guide them up to the top. This magnet experiment will be fun to do in class, a nice variation on the usual sink and float activity.

Early Christmas Present

The postman delivered a heavy package today from my brother, Mike.  He is a farrier and talented maker of custom spurs, bits, and buckles.  Check out his website for pictures of his handiwork.

I excitedly opened the box to find the beautiful cross below, which he had fashioned out of a single bar of metal.  Thanks, big brother.  I love it!

6 for a Shiv-v-v-ery Saturday

1.  This first of the 6 for this Saturday is a rustic spool snowman I made.  While trying to avoid the glare caused by using the flash, the picture somehow came out this interesting color. So appropriate for the holiday, huh?

2.  Next is a button Christmas tree I made to wear to school.  My 2ndies will be intrigued.

3.  Last year I crocheted this garland for my classroom tree.  As we were doing gingerbread activities, I crocheted mini gingerbread ornaments into the garland.

4.  As a scrapbooker/crafter, I like keeping my glitters in an assortment of salt and pepper shakers I acquired at flea markets and yard sales.  It makes it easy to dispense.  You'll also see how I've displayed marbles on candle holders.  Aren't they pretty?

5.  Our hometown newspaper, the Coweta American, always asks our students to write letters to Santa, which are then published in the paper.  They'll be busy working on those letters next week!  This was the only link I could find, but it doesn't link to a blog
Don't you just love vintage pictures?

6.  Wouldn't this be a hoot to make in your guest bathroom when you invite holiday guests over?  Robin's blog is full of creative ideas.

can you imagine walking into this bathroom at a Christmas party? This just makes me laugh!!! !

Please leave your link here if you have posted your Pinterest favs as well.

Snow Day 2!!

We don't have that many snow days each year in my corner of Oklahoma.  Usually it because of sleet and freezing raining making roads hazardous.  While we did get some sleet yesterday, enough to make for slickery driving, we didn't have snow.  However, I awoke this morning to a snowy wonderland!

Brrr!  The wind chill is  !!

It's not just the ground that wears a frozen blanket of snow!

I felt so badly when I saw these little tracks on my patio this morning.  They were expecting to find something to eat.  I need to get busy and stir up some suet cakes for my frosty-feathered friends.

6 for Saturday

You'll have to pretend it's Saturday.  Yesterday was so busy, I didn't even have time to turn on my computer!  Enjoy these pins, link up and let me know what your 6 favs were for the week.

First is a tribute to the author we lost recently

I'm going to make some of these to go with my gingerbread these for this month.

Spiral Tree Ornament- Easy for kids to do!

This will be a cute independent center activity for my 2ndies.  I'll use up some of my sequin stash instead of glitter.  (Our custodian will thank me.) ;-) Get directions here.

What a great object lesson on self control!  Find the how-to @ Donna's blog plus a video of the Teacher Tipster using this technique as well.

First, blow some bubbles and, as expected, the kids will all pop them. Then, challenge them to NOT pop the bubbles even if one lands on the tip of their nose. Introduce the concept of self control and launch a discussion about stopping to think before you act. You can refer back to again and again throughout the year..."Think about that time when we didn't pop the bubbles…" What a great way to reinforce self control!

It's Christmas #Christmas

This sweet card reminds me of ones I saw when I was a little girl.  Loved the illustrations of the 50s.

I could find this exact card on the link given by Google where I got this pic, but it's supposed to be there somewhere.

Did you enjoy these?  Now go post your 6 favs and come back here to leave your link!

6 for Saturday

Can anyone relate to how busy the days are lately?  It seems no matter how busy I get, I always manage to squeeze in a few minutes here and there for the stress reliever called Pinterest!

Here are this week's treasures:

Kids craft

These could be fashioned to use with stories for retelling purposes.  What fun!  I hadn't seen this site before.

DYI playdough/balloon stress ball

This may work for my kiddos that fidget or need tactile/kinesthetic release.  I've often seen pictures of the flour-filled kind, but would hate to see the result if a child got too rambunctious. Check out the tutorial.  Posters suggested double ballooning them to last longer.  Rice or peas can be another filler.

Can't wait for my Learning Gardeners to try this out!  There's a tutorial here.

Four berry jam that is perfect for celebrating the holiday. I love it from the beginning of November clear through December!

Sounds yummy!  Gonna try this.

Great idea to prepare for testing!
